A Reddit post that has gone viral on social media has been called the “split face diving accident.” Even though the story and gruesome video were posted online 13 years ago, netizens seem to have recently discovered the old post.
The story was posted on Reddit by user u/zombiedub many years ago. At the time this article was written, it had gotten 93% of the upvotes.
The terrible accident, which involved a 16-year-old from Beirut, is said to have happened in June 2009. A teenager was trying to dive off the Manara Promenade, which is right across the street from the American University. The teenager hit concrete first and then the ocean.

What happened in the video of the accident with the split face diver?
The diving accident video has been posted online again, and it shows the boy’s brother successfully diving into the water from the Promenade building, which is more than 40 feet high. The Reddit post said that the brother and his sibling “had made several jumps before and everything had gone well, but this time he slips and disaster happens.”
After the teen boy hit the ground, a girl standing nearby could be heard screaming in Arabic, “Oh my God! Oh my God! Someone call Civil Defense.”

In the next part of the video, the boy is seen in the emergency room of American University Hospital. The Reddit post said that the doctor tried to hold the boy’s face together to protect the airway. The user told everyone that the teenager was kept alive for two days before he died.
The only thing the doctors could do was stitch up the deep and severe cuts on his face. Some doctors on the Internet said that a good ENT could fix this kid up, but the poor guy couldn’t be saved. They could only keep him alive in the ICU for two days before he passed away.
People question whether a video of a diving accident is real.
As the clip gained popularity online, many people questioned whether or not it was real. Some people thought the video was fake because hospital footage said the teenager tried to kill himself with a gun but failed. The Reddit user also said that an accident with a 9mm gun couldn’t cause such jarring injuries to the face.
The social media user also said that the video was scary right from the start because there was a warning in three languages. The post also said:
“There is weird, cheesy, hard to describe instrumental music playing in the background of the whole video, which for some strange reason really adds to the horror. The jerky, amateurish cellphone footage that jumps around also adds to the terror in some way.”
The Reddit user also said that it doesn’t matter if people make guesses about what killed him. In the end, the diving accident hurt the teenager’s head very badly. The person wrote:
“This video is really scary, even if the two parts, one on the promenade and one in the operating room, aren’t connected. It doesn’t matter if it’s the same person or not because they are both real videos. It’s scary like the movies Saw and Hostel. In the end, that’s all that really matters.”
No one knows why the video is getting popular now. When @pazlinx posted about the same thing on Twitter, it started to get more attention again. At the time this article was written, the tweet had more than 445 likes.
